Role

  • Wear a number of different hats (product management, account management, and marketing) as part of a small 11-person startup team.  Early-stage Angel-funded startup.
  • Scope and prioritize requirements & mockups to deliver MVPs targeting discrete market segments in order to maximize our return on investment. 
  • Perform market and competitive analysis, watching market trends and guiding product roadmaps in response.
  • Led daily “state of the company” analysis for the CEO covering key metrics like: users, demographic, behavior patterns, ad performance, etc…  To perform this task I use a number of tools such as Google Analytics, PostgreSQL, Amazon Redshift, Ruby scripting, and Highcharts. 
  • Wrote ad-hoc reporting using SQL to do feature usage analysis and root cause investigations.
  • Train customers and manage the rollout of software.  Serve as point of contact for customers.
  • Write copy for advertisements and other communications (blogs, emails). 

Achievements

  • Led the development of a new product line from inception to launch in five countries.
  • Designed and led the creation of a suite of reporting ranging from basic tabular data to interactive charts and a dynamic web portal marketed to product managers. 
  • Wrote email marketing campaigns that averaged an open rate of 32%.
  • Led the launch processes for 8 customers, going on site for 3 and training key personnel.
  • Crafted powerpoint decks, performed analysis, and built reporting that helped to land three key accounts that contributed ~40% of our revenue.

Technical Product Manager

McGraw Hill Education

Role

  • Product-managed two platforms that were used by eight different product lines.
  • Worked with Business Product Managers to prioritize requests/features across multiple product lines.  Developed epics, stories, planned sprints, served as Product Owner in scrum, etc…
  • Contributed to MRDs, PRDs, and other sales documents to ensure technical veracity and to prioritize features. 
  • Served as the technical lead in presentations and communications with key clients.
  • Led two teams: a large 40-person offshore waterfall team and a smaller 12-person on-shore team.
  • Managed Business Analysts and mentored Associate Technical Product Managers

Achievements

  • Introduced Agile to my engineers (~45 of them).  Trained them in procedures and software.  Configured new software systems to support our Agile workflow.
  • Led the development of a multi-platform solution during an amazingly short timeline that directly contributed to McGraw-Hill keeping a $12 million contract with 150,000 users.
  • Contributed to the RFP and in-person pitch for the eventual win of a $35 million contract.
  • Managed the development lifecycle for a large enterprise application that grossed over $100 million annually in coordination with multiple Business Product Managers.

Role

  • Served as Product Owner, detailing requirements, sprints, answering questions, and participating in scrum.
  • Ran requirements workshops, conducted one-on-one interviews, and performed market research.
  • Assisted in advanced support issues in technical and customer facing capacities.
  • Wrote ad-hoc reporting using SQL to do feature usage analysis and root cause investigations.
  • Developed and conducted training programs for large and small groups of internal and external customers both in-person and online.
  • Wrote release notes, feature explanations, configuration specifications, and help files.
  • Participated in sales calls with customers by demonstrating the software and acting as a product expert.

Achievements

  • Converted two cross-functional teams from using notecards for Agile planning over to using Jira and the Greenhopper plugin. By doing so I automated a great deal of the sprint and project-level reporting that executive stakeholders were lacking.
  • Documented key configurations, standards, and processes thus making new customer launches smoother and faster.

  • Managed a flagship SaaS CRM application that supported technical support call centers.
  • Performed business, customer, and market analysis to develop new features and improvements.
  • Developed product roadmaps in coordination with PM leadership and other PMs on my team.
  • Assisted in converting the development teams to Agile methodologies and served as Product Owner in scrum.
  • Assisted in advanced support issues.

Achievements

  • Drove a QA-automation effort using Unit and Graphical BDD testing to reduce system test time by 80% and improve product agility.
  • Led the transition from a legacy software platform to a more robust, scalable, marketable, and productive SaaS product that saw up to 1000 concurrent users.
  • Envisioned, planned, and drove platform improvements that were instrumental in landing several new contracts including one with a Fortune 100 company and several leading Canadian Telecoms.

  • Integrated existing applications using C#, IBM MQ/MSMQ, Oracle Data Integrator, and ETL systems.
  • Led development of rapid lifecycle web applications using .NET 3.5 and Entity Framework.
  • Reverse engineered and documented (in code, UML, and technical writing) legacy WMS systems.
  • Wrote TWAIN scanning software to automate scanning in over 15 warehouses around the country.

  • Developed C# applications to support Warehousing operations that shipped ~15,000 units/day, 24x7.
  • Wrote queries, stored procedures, indexes, and views, for a large (2 TB) SQL Server 2000 database.
  • Developed financial processing software in C# used to process over 30,000 transactions a day utilizing web services, windows services and smart client technology.
  • Created tools using C# to assist and speed infrastructure operations on over 1000 servers.
  • Worked 3rd shift for four months to lead the launch of a processing center in Japan.
